Shira Sebban OAM (OL 1980) New Book Launch
Thursday, 13 June 2024

We are excited to announce the launch of a new non-fiction book by Shira Sebban OAM (OL 1980).
Shira launched her book Vietnam's Modern Day Boat People: Bridging Borders for Freedom on 19 May at 2.30-4.00pm at the Multicultural Hub in Melbourne.

Attending was Monash University Professor Nathalie Nguyen, leading international scholar on the Vietnamese diaspora and refugee experiences.

Melbourne University academic Dr Tess Do, who is uniquely linked to the book, gave a short speech in Vietnamese (and English), as did Victorian Vietnamese Community President Nguyen Quang Duy.

Shira was overwhelmed with gratitude when her Lauriston friends joined her in the celebrations of the book launch.  Shira is pictured centre, with from left, Elizabeth Manning (Gammon, OL 1980), Kate Collin (Sloan, OL 1980), Lisa Monahan (OL 1980) and Sarah Jessup (Mitchell, OL 1980).

Proceeds from books sales contributed to Vietnamese refugee support group, VOICE Australia.
Shira’s book is available in paperback from Readings, online or in a Kindle version from Amazon.

Congratulations Shira!
