Elizabeth's news since Lisa Miller’s excellent cover story “A novel way of life” in the July 2015 issue of Lauriston Life is that she has recently published her ninth novel, Ghosts from the Past, in May 2019, and that it was shortlisted as one of six finalists for the 2020 Next Generation Indie Book Awards in the category “Chick Lit”.

As you can learn from their website, https://www.indiebookawards.com/ , is one of the biggest international awards for independent (indie) writers and publishers, and Elizabeth feels very gratified indeed that the quality of her writing and the presentation of the finished product have been recognised by professionals in the field – even if she wouldn’t really call Ghosts from the Past “chick lit”!

Elizabeth says that reaching the finalists on a worldwide scale is particularly satisfying because she does everything herself – writing, editing, proofreading, layout, cover design and marketing.

Ghosts from the Past is a novel about art and society, about history and world politics, about nationality and identity and the power of memories.

Back cover text:

When her mother became involved in the feminist movement in Australia in the 1970s, Cassandra Crawford had no idea how radically this would affect her own life, that it would precipitate her parents' estrangement, and influence not only her own choice of career, but also, indirectly, her choice of a husband.

Basel, June 2012 - Meanwhile happily settled in Basel, Cassandra is visiting the art fair when she suddenly comes face to face with a former friend from her school and university days in Melbourne. This encounter with Diana Farmer, now the wife of a successful New York gallery owner, awakens memories Cassandra had consistently tried to suppress, for the weeks they had spent travelling together in Greece after completing their respective degrees had marked her for life. With her husband away on a business trip, and no one she knows well enough to confide in, she realises that only she alone can come to terms with the events of her past.
Entertaining and thought-provoking, Ghosts from the Past is a novel about art and society, about history and world politics, about nationality and identity and the power of memories. Taking the reader on a journey of discovery, it oscillates between those pleasant summer days in Basel and Cassandra's reminiscences as she examines the long sequence of events that had taken her away from her native country and had ultimately brought her to the city on the banks of the Rhine.

Elizabeth is now working on her tenth novel, this time mainly set in Paris. For Elizabeth, each of her novels is a journey to a new destination, an exciting journey of discovery where she starts off with a plan for the general route, but which sometimes takes her to unexpected places on the way.

Elizabeth lives with her Swiss husband and their dog and cat in Switzerland and in their country retreat in Provence (which they unfortunately can’t retreat to at the moment because of the border closures and France’s strict lockdown rules).
