Students, parents and teachers were delighted when Premier Andrews outlined on Tuesday 12 May that students from Prep to Year 2 as well as Years 11 and 12 would return to class from Tuesday 26 May.  Students in all remaining year levels will return to school on 9 June.

Until the transition is complete, online learning will continue. The remote learning activities our students complete have been designed to maintain a sense of predictability and normalcy whilst continuing the academic curriculum.  The school has also been focused on ensuring that aspects of school life beyond traditional subject boundaries continues.    

Music performances have been captured as virtual performances and shared with the Lauriston community. If you have not yet seen it, the performance of ‘No One is Alone’ by the Chamber Strings is well worth watching:

 

The idea to capture performances virtually was an initiative from our Music Captains, and has been hugely popular with both students and the wider community.  

 Although the Senior School production of ‘Beauty & the Beast’ was postponed, the cast showcased their talents with their own virtual lip sync performance that would rival any stage production.  Watch their video:

 

 Acknowledging significant events have also continued. Senior School students marked ANZAC Day by participating in a virtual assembly and sharing their own artistic interpretations of a wreath or poppy during the assembly - see here.     

The move to online learning has meant our students have needed resilience, adaptability and courage – core Lauriston values. They have also focused on maintaining their friendships, albeit virtually.  

 In this final video, School Co-Captains Jessica Detering and Veasna Gunawan send a special message to the Class of 2020, encouraging them to stay positive, and reminding them that physical distancing doesn’t mean being social distant.
